republicans by a wide margin -- in national polls. it's still tight here in iowa in recent polling against ted cruz. yesterday, trump stopped at the university of iowa yesterday where plenty of supporters and protestors showed up. kcrg-tv9's sarah mccarthy has more. "this space inside the university of iowa fieldhouse was completely filled with people waiting to hear from republican presidential front-runner donald trump. but not everyone was a supporter." scenes like this stopped donald trump's speech at least half a dozen times tuesday night. an organized group of protestors with bright red t-shirts reading "i stand with my muslim neighbors" interrupted trump with plastic whistles.. for one iowa city mother, she's here for her son.

summer say two police officers used excessive force during the disturbance. tina dean, her 3 children and another 13-year-old were involved in the incident last august. the fight happened in august in the alley behind the 1800 block of white street. police say a group of people circled up and were about to fight. the first officer to respond tried several times to break up the circle. he says while he was taking a 12 year old boy into custody, the group circled the officer. that's when the officer says he used pepper spray on the crowd. the lawsuit says officers jay murray and brian jobgen didn't need to use pepper spray to break up the group. the lawsuit also says police did not have probable cause to arrest dean's 12-year-old son and 14- year-old daughter. interference with official acts. investigators in southern iowa say a man - missing since last week - died in a car crash. police say a passer-by spotted a car yesterday morning in a ravine in albia- that's in monroe of 50-year-old leslie hartley

ago today. the iowa state patrol is investigating the crash. a woman has been arrested for child endangerment after a deadly crash in fayette county that she wasn't involved in. emergency crews were called to the business resale therapy along highway 18 in clermont sunday evening. the fayette county sheriff's office said 38 year old james tackett's vehicle smashed into the building. he died at the scene, but a 5-year old girl in the back was taken to the hospital. investigators found alcohol may have played a factor. the sheriff's office also determined tackett is a convicted sex offender who didn't register his status in fayette county. they also learned the child in the car was the daughter of 27 year old hilary upton. they say upton knew he had not registered his status... and let tackett watch her daughter. upton faces a child endangerment charge. a pro-life group is pleased that planned parenthood is closing its health center in dubuque. planned parenthood of the heartland

services there immediately. the non profit says it's doing that because there isn't enough demand at the location on hillcrest road. dubuque county right for life applauded the decision. "very excited. very good news. we've looked forward to this. now we can have more time to continue our education efforts in more avenue instead of planned parenthood. back in working order this midday after an overnight scare. police responded to the airport late last night after someone spotted a suspicious white substance near the baggage claim area. the incident closed down a portion of the airport overnight. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders was at the airport all morning and has more. a suspicious package at the eastern iowa airport led to the closing off of part of the baggage claim area tuesday night into early wednesday morning.a release from the cedar rapids police department said dispatchers received a report of a suspicious package around 7:20 p.m. tuesday. airport spokesperson pam hinman said airline personnel alerted airport employees just before 7 p.m. of a suspicious bag that arrived on a flight from chicago. authorities secured the area around the package as a safety precaution, she said. a substance inside the package was tested by members of the 71st civil support team, a unit of the iowa national guard, and determined to be non- hazardous. hinman said the baggage belt area was reopened around 4 a.m. wednesday.

the investigation, authorities said in cedar rapids, forrest saunders, kcrg-tv9 cedar rapids police and community leaders introduced a new community action team program this morning. its part of a new city council task force to focus on law enforcement's response to violence. but they also want to get at the root causes of poverty as a way to decrease violence. this new group consolidates the efforts that sprung up following a shooting that killed a cedar rapids teenage. last september, 14-year-old robert humbles shot 15-year-old aaron richardson near redmond park. this is video from the scene. richardson ran to a house in the 300 block of 16th street se for help. he later died in the hospital.

voluntary manslaughter last year. he's now in a juvenile detention center, where he'll stay until he turns 18. then, a judge will decide whether he'll be released or go to adult prison. cedar rapids mayor ron corbett says the city wants to avoid repeating efforts and focus on the role poverty plays in violence. that's why they formed the task force. it will consist of about 20 members representing numerous groups. they will study how to make the city more fair and equitable for all. violence singularly, but we think we can be more effective if we take a broader approach, a deeper look if you will a systemic look at some of the problems we face " "as a community, we need to address job creation and employment and housing. we need to address just a whole system of poverty" those on the council say they'll probably spend several months studying the problem and current resources. the city

candidate hillary clinton. she's in adel right now and will make about a dozen more stops leading up to caucus night on monday. mrs. clinton is leading in most national polls, but has lost her lead in iowa. a qunnipiac university poll of likely democratic caucus-goers found that she's currently trailing vermont senator bernie sanders by four points in the state. on the republican side, the final debate before the iowa caucuses will be without the candidate who tends to get the most attention. donald trump won't take part in the fox news debate tomorrow night. his campaign manager says he will hold events in iowa, instead. there has been an ongoing feud between trump and fox news since the first debate back in august. trump has repeatedly criticized host megyn kelly for what he calls unfair questioning during the debate. new jersey governor chris christie has is campaigning in iowa later today. he'll be at the courtside sports bar and grill in dubuque tonight. that event

concern of it getting into the water. the highway running along the railroad was closed for several hours, but has since reopened. no one was hurt. federal investigators say they have a good idea what caused a deadly train crash in philadelphia last year. the ntsb says an amtrak engineer was distracted by radio chatter from other train operator when the train crashed in may. the crash killed 8 people and injured more than 200 others. the ntsb is expected to release more details on the crash next week. several members of a militia that occupied a federal building in oregon are now in police custody. the group's leader was arrested last night after an exchange of gunfire. abc's ray raimundi has the latest. right now -- a containment zone has been set up by oregon state police and fbi agents around the wildlife refuge where there are now several checkpoints. this as law enforcement agents moved in overnight... to end an almost month long occupation from armed

way - their 2nd. daughter hazel is almost 2. and that's what's happening in hollywood, i'm jason nathanson, abc news, los angeles this year's fry fest will feature the unveiling of a new statue. the coralville city council is set to vote on a contract with a kalona company that could design and create a hayden fry statue. the contract would be with max-cast for making the $36,000 statue to honor the former hawkeye football coach. the plan is to have the statue ready for the annual hawkeye celebration and concert at the start of every football season. coralville hopes to put the statue somewhere in the iowa river landing. the mayor says there will be no cost to taxpayers.
